Twalib Gunda
Aboutwalib Gunda - better known to his friends and guests as Twalib - is a passionate guide whose life has been shaped by the breathtaking landscapes of northern Tanzania. Born and raised in Arusha, at the foot of Mount Meru and surrounded by vast savannahs, he grew up immersed in a vibrant mix of cultures and the extraordinary wildlife of East Africa. From an early age, he was inspired by his father, who was a guide, and by school and college trips to national parks, where he first witnessed the beauty, complexity, and rhythm of the natural world. These experiences instilled in him a deep respect for the land, its wildlife, and the people who call it home.
A proud member of the Chui (Leopard) Clan of the Nilamba tribe, Twalib carries a name rich with meaning. In Nilamba culture, the leopard symbolizes strength, wisdom, courage and quiet leadership. Being part of this lineage is more than heritage - it is a responsibility: to move with respect for nature, observe carefully, and lead with confidence and humility. These values are at the heart of his guiding philosophy, shaping how he connects with the land, wildlife and guests along every journey.
Twalib’s approach to guiding is built on storytelling, curiosity, and connection. For him, every safari or trek is more than seeing animals; it is about helping guests understand the lives of the creatures they encounter, the traditions of the people who live alongside them and the ecosystems that sustain them. He takes great joy in those first moments when travelers witness wildlife for the first time - the spark of excitement, curiosity, and awe that makes guiding truly meaningful.
He is drawn to a wide range of destinations, from Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and Nyerere National Park, to excursions in Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana and Namibia. Whether leading guests through iconic savannahs, tracking elusive wildlife, or exploring quieter corners of the wilderness, Aboutwalib ensures that each journey is immersive, educational and deeply personal.
When he is not in the field, Twalib can often be found behind the camera, capturing the landscapes, wildlife, and moments that define the African wilderness. Photography is more than a hobby - it is a way to preserve the magic of each adventure and share the stories of Africa with a wider audience.
Above all, guiding for Aboutwalib is about people. He loves learning about the cultures and perspectives of his guests, exchanging knowledge, and creating meaningful connections. He believes that the true essence of guiding lies in how it makes people feel: informed, inspired, and connected to the wild places they visit.
For Twalib, every trail has a story, every encounter is a lesson, and every safari is a chance to share the wonder of Africa in a way that will stay with guests long after they leave.
