Jacques Habimana
Jacques is a Rwandan-born safari guide whose passion for the natural world was shaped early, growing up among the country’s forests and rich wildlife landscapes. This deep-rooted connection to nature led him naturally into a career in guiding, where he has spent the past five years specializing in birdwatching and immersive wildlife experiences.
Currently a member of the Nyungwe Community Freelance Guide Cooperative, Jacques has built a strong foundation working alongside a variety of respected operators. These experiences, combined with guiding a diverse international clientele, have allowed him to develop a nuanced understanding of Rwanda’s tourism landscape and a talent for tailoring each safari to the individual interests of his guests.
With an academic background in Tourism and Wildlife Conservation, Jacques brings both scientific insight and practical field expertise to his guiding. His approach is thoughtful and engaging - balancing detailed ecological knowledge with a genuine enthusiasm for sharing Rwanda’s natural and cultural heritage.
Jacques guides across Rwanda’s three flagship ecosystems: the ancient rainforests of Nyungwe, home to chimpanzees and a remarkable diversity of Albertine Rift endemics; the volcanic highlands of Volcanoes National Park, synonymous with gorilla trekking; and the savannah plains of Akagera National Park, offering a classic East African safari experience.
One of his most memorable moments in the field came in Nyungwe, where, while tracking endemic bird species, he and his guests encountered a troop of chimpanzees at close range - an experience that perfectly captured the magic of Rwanda’s wild places.
Calm, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to his environment, Jacques is driven by a simple goal: to share the beauty, diversity, and spirit of Rwanda with those who travel alongside him.
