Ernest “Rei” Nyamasyo

Ernest “Rei” Nyamasyo’s journey into the wild began long before he ever led a safari. Born in Nairobi to a zoologist father and a linguist mother, Ernest grew up straddling two worlds, one of scientific inquiry and one of language and cultural nuance. As a child, he accompanied his father on field expeditions across Kenya, absorbing the rhythms of nature and the thrill of discovery. His early years as a boy scout further deepened his love for the outdoors, instilling a sense of discipline and curiosity that would later define his career. That travel bug, bitten early, never left.

Ernest pursued a degree in Mass Communication at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Moscow, where he equally earned a diploma in Russian and became conversational in Ukrainian. This international education not only broadened his worldview but also equipped him with the linguistic dexterity to connect with guests from across the globe. Today, Ernest is a seasoned Wildlife Safari Guide and Tour Leader, guiding in Kenya and Tanzania with a rare blend of ecological expertise and cross-cultural fluency.

With over fifteen years in sustainable tourism and conservation, Ernest has become a trusted name in East African guiding. He leads wildlife photographic safaris, birdwatching trips, Nairobi city tours, cultural excursions, and scientific expeditions, interpreting the behavior of everything from sunbirds to snakes with precision and passion. His encyclopedic knowledge of avian species and their mannerisms makes him a favorite among birders, while his ability to weave cultural narratives into wildlife encounters offers guests a richer, more layered experience.

Ernest is also a professional wildlife photographer and video editor, capturing the continent’s beauty through a lens that respects both subject and setting. As a licensed drone pilot, he also brings new perspectives to conservation storytelling, while his certifications in first aid, fire safety, and snakebite management ensure that every expedition is not only enlightening but safe. His training with organizations like National Geographic, Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute (currently Wildlife Research and Training Institute), among others reflects a lifelong commitment to preparedness and professionalism.

Whether he’s guiding a family through the Maasai Mara or leading a scientific team into the depths of Tsavo, Ernest approaches each journey as an immersive experience. He believes that safaris should foster understanding, not just of wildlife, but of the cultures and communities that coexist with it.

Ernest’s guiding philosophy is rooted in respect, education, and storytelling. He is a certified Bronze member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association and holds qualifications in ecotourism and digital journalism. His safaris are meticulously planned, emotionally resonant, and intellectually engaging, designed for travelers who seek not just adventure, but meaning.
