Anne Tumpesia
Anne Tumpesia is a bronze level safari guide specializing in photography, storytelling, cultural promotion, and flora and fauna. Born and raised in a small village in Narok County, she faced significant challenges, including societal pressures to marry a man of her father’s choosing, at a young age. Determined to pursue education, she often encountered wildlife on her daily journey to school, an experience that sparked her deep love for nature and inspired her to become a guide.
Instead of marrying young, Anne began her training at Koiyiaki Guiding School, where she studied Tour Guiding and Travel Operations, before further refining her skills at Mwewe Ranger Guide School. Currently, she is pursuing a Diploma in Tourism Management. With eight years of experience in a male-dominated industry, Anne has overcome numerous challenges to establish herself as a respected guide and a role model for young women in her community.
Throughout her career, she has worked at two prestigious high-end properties and has received several accolades in recognition of her excellence. In 2019, she was named Best Female Guide in Kenya and Tanzania at the MAA Awards. She was later honored with the Eco-Trip-Match Award for Best Nature Guide in 2022. Most recently, she was recognized as the First Runner-Up for Tourism Personality of the Year at the Kenya Tourism Awards in 2024.
Anne takes great pride in sharing her journey as a female guide, breaking barriers, and raising the standard for women in the safari industry. Passionate about advocating for women’s rights and promoting cultural awareness, she is committed to delivering exceptional guided experiences that leave a lasting impact.
