Alphonce Albinusy

Alphonce Albinusy grew up in a small village on the edge of a national park in northern Tanzania, where his father worked. From a young age, the park felt like home - a safe and peaceful place where wildlife roamed freely. Encounters with animals outside the reserve and visits from park rangers who spoke about conservation, poaching, and human–wildlife conflict inspired his love for nature and planted the seed for his future. With encouragement from his father, Alphonce promised himself that one day he would help protect wildlife. School trips to national parks and time spent in his village during holidays only deepened that passion.

After college, Alphonce began his career in research and conservation with the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI). He also collaborated with non-profit organizations including Global Birding, Nature Tanzania, and The Africa Foundation. These experiences gave him a strong foundation in wildlife ecology and conservation issues. Over time, however, he realised he wanted to do more - to share his knowledge not just in research papers, but through teaching, storytelling, and guiding people from around the world. For Alphonce, this became the most powerful way to raise awareness and create lasting impact.

His guiding career began in Tarangire National Park, where he worked as a camp-based guide before moving on to &Beyond Klein’s Private Concession on the Serengeti–Maasai Mara border. He then joined Serengeti Under Canvas, following the Great Migration and gaining unmatched knowledge of the Serengeti’s landscapes and wildlife. Alphonce has also guided in Lake Manyara National Park, home to the famous tree-climbing lions, and in the Ngorongoro Crater before ultimately settling in the Serengeti, which he now calls home.

Today, Alphonce is one of Tanzania’s few highly qualified walking safari guides, combining expert field skills with a passion for wildlife photography and storytelling. He is FGASA Level II certified and holds Tanzania’s Top Ranking Guide certification, the highest in the country. Trained at the MWEWE Ranger Training School under &Beyond, he is also a fully licensed guide with the Tanzania National Parks Authority. Beyond his guiding, Alphonce works as a mentor and substitute trainer, helping prepare the next generation of guides.

His leadership also extends to ornithology: he co-founded the Tanzania Birders Community, serves as a team leader, and is the national coordinator for Global Big Birding Day in Tanzania.

Now working as a private safari guide, Alphonce leads safaris across Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda. Guests who travel with him discover not just the wildlife, but also the transformative beauty of the African wilderness - brought to life through his deep knowledge, conservation background, and gift for storytelling.
